Appendices
The appendices represent part of the work undertaken during the process leading to the European Report on Development 2010 that - for reasons of time and space - could not be included in the final Report. They summarise the evidence collected through two different questionnaires.
Appendix 1: Questioning social protection experts in Sub-Saharan Africa. Pilot study and future outcome looks at the 'African perspective' on the politics of social protection programmes. The questionnaire was directed at local social protection specialists, asked to give their feedback on the conceptualisation of social protection, the effectiveness of a country's social protection agenda and its impact on people's lives.

Appendix 2: Social protection in EU development policies: overview and mapping intends to map out the activities undertaken by the Commission and different European Member States in the field of social protection in developing countries. Again, the Appendix summarises the evidence from a questionnaire. This was sent to the Commision and to EU donor agencies, including those working in the field, and provides a useful though not exhaustive source of information on the overall role of EU donors in the field of social protection
